We live in an interesting world, don’t we? Those that are slim, thin and skinny somehow are the ones we most look up to. While we do that, we are shelling out our hard earned money on processed snacks, junk and fast food. We sit around and watch television, park as closely as possible to the grocery store and definitely do not have the “time” to work out.

In our society, we have this constant obsession to try to fit a certain mold. It’s always us trying to get “skinny” or lose weight for some event. You are not alone; I have been there as well.

When we can’t fit this mold or look like what we hope to be, we start becoming unhappy with the way we look. No one associates his or her illness and sluggishness with food. What do we do? We start not only cutting calories but also looking to see what the new “it” thing is. Diet pills with those clever, hard to resist advertisements, replacement shakes, artificial sweeteners, surgeries, magazines, 3 day fad cleanses or whatever seems to be working for a celebrity.

This may seem harsh but this is the reality of what is happening. When we do all these things mentioned it just makes our problem worse. Some do experience weight loss – what they don’t realize is that you are losing muscle at the same time. Eventually you gain it back, which unfortunately will be all fat, and you are worse than before you started. You are now minus the muscle plus more fat. No fun, right?

So what now? If you want to lose weight, keep it off and feel better than you have before, there are ways to do it. Sorry, diet pills, meal replacements and fad diets are not included. Yes - Burger King's "healthy" fries are out.

  1. Eat breakfast

  2. Eat all day long (every 2-3 hours)

  3. Drink more water

  4. Feel confident, love yourself + know you are worth it.

  5. Eat whole foods + make this a lifestyle

  6. Reduce stress

  7. Get a good night’s sleep

  8. Get moving

  9. Keep a journal

  10. Eat some good, high quality protein

  11. Take a vitamin supplement

  12. Eat more vegetables

  13. Give up the “c”‘s

  14. Incorporate essential oils into your life!

  15. Do a kitchen makeover and get the unhealthy foods that tempt you out of your house.

What do you think of skipping the fad diets? Throw away the diet pills! (You can throw away your sleeping pills at the same time! 2 for 1!) Start eating healthy!

If you want to lose weight, eat more green vegetables and less simple carbohydrates. Give up the “C”‘s - cakes, cookies, candy and chips! Once those are out of your house and your life you WILL lose weight.

  • Fruits and vegetables

  • Whole grains

  • Small amounts of high quality protein

  • Small amounts of healthy fat (coconut oil, avocado)

Most of all, have fun with it! Mix it up and make it a lifestyle!
